outDOOR MURAL - squamish mural festival

Squamish, BC

“Death is Not the End”

Outdoor temporary mural for the Squamish Mural Festival, on 12’ x 8’ primed plywood. Part of 9 temporary murals temporarily displayed in Stan Clarke Park, downtown Squamish for the duration of the festival and the summer season. Relocated to Oceanfront Park in the fall.

A mural inspired by nature’s life cycles and is imagined as a close-up view of the forest floor: a world where fungi and plants grow from decay. It centres around saprotrophs (fungi that break down dead organic matter) and mycoheterotrophs (plants that indirectly rely on that decay through fungal relationships).

The fungi (saprotrophs): Bleeding Mycena, Shaggy Mane, Inky Caps, Turkey Tail, Corpse Mushroom (Aseroe rubra), and Blewit.
The plants (mycoheterotrophs): Ghost Pipe, Pinesap, Western Coralroot, and Pinedrops.
The animal skulls (not to scale): crow, raccoon, and mouse
